Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He defended 4 initial chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
